Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach has registered a company in China and opened its office in Shanghai. This is reported to be the first office the club has opened overseas.
The Chinese company is named Borussia Mönchengladbach (Shanghai) Sport Development Co. Ltd. It was registered at the beginning of June, 2018 at the Shanghai Administration for Industry&Commerce with a registration capital of EUR300,000. Peter Hambuchen is the legal representative. The company is wholly owned by the club. Stephan Schippers and Guido Heinz Uhle are the Supervisor. Martin Thiess is the General Manager and Peter Hambuchen is the Executive Director.
The new office was officially opened on October 16 Tuesday in Shanghai, attended by the club’s Chief Executive Stephan Schippers, Head of Global Operations/Executive Director China Peter Hambüchen, General Manager China Martin Thiess and other people from the club’s management team. The Mönchengladbach Mayor Hans Wilhelm Reiners and some other high-ranking leaders were also invited as special guests and the Mayor made a speech at the opening, saying that the football club is a name card of the city and he hopes more Chinese people would like the club.
The Shanghai Office is located at The Place (Hongqiao Nanfeng Cheng) in Changning District. Hupu Football reports the office’s size is 85 square meters.
Mönchengladbach is doing some projects around Chinese youth football training. Currently they are working with the city of Suqian, Jiangsu Province, near Shanghai and have started collaborating with the local sports bureau, education bureau and football association. The sports agency Lagardere Sports will assist Mönchengladbach in its youth football training projects.
Chief Executive Stephan Schippers said at the opening that the club values youth training very much. In the future they hope to organize visits to the club for young football players in Suqian.
