GOME, a Chinese electrical appliance retailer, has become a sponsor to the 2015-2016 Asia League Ice Hockey (ALIH). The sponsorship deal came into effect last Saturday. According to the deal, the retailer will provide support for nine tournaments in Beijing and Shanghai.
ALIH operates a professional ice hockey league based in East Asia and headquartered in Japan. At the end of the playoffs every year, the winner receives the Championship Trophy. As reported, there will be a total of 48 tournaments this season, 24 of which will be held in Beijing, Shanghai, and Qiqihar. The China Dragon, a professional Chinese ice hockey team, will play in Beijing and Shanghai, the two host cities.
GOME has been an active sponsor of winter sports for some time. It was previously a partner of the Freestyle Skiing Freestyle Ski World Cup in 2013. The company sees this deal as a rehearsal of its further plans for the 2022 Olympics. Besides the financial support, GOME is expected to expand the ticketing channels to its official Weibo and key stores for example.
