Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company, a joint venture founded in 2002 by Nissan Motor Co. and China's Dongfeng Motor Corp, said it was astonished by Guangzhou Evergrande’s dropping of its jersey ads in the final match of the AFC Champions League, according to Nissan’s official post last Saturday night.
As cited by media reports, at the beginning of November, Evergrande had asked for a buy-back of the jersey ads rights from Nissan. They were turned down by the motor company. However, without the agreement of its advertising partner, the club changed its jersey ads to Evergrande Life Insurance for the second leg of the final, when they defeated the UAE's Al Ahli 1-0 in Guangzhou.
Evergrande and Dongfeng Nissan struck the jersey deal on February 17th, 2014, and it is said that the agreement was worth 110 million yuan ($17.24 million). Nissan is seeking a public response from Evergrande and says it will reserve the right to take further action. There has been no official response from the club up to now.
