Net Insight, a leading provider of efficient and scalable transport solutions for media, IP and broadcast networks today announced that its Nimbra solution has been selected by China Unicom, the state-owned telecommunications operator, for a video contribution network to support transporting media content from live sports games.
Net Insight`s Nimbra MSR solution will be used for video contribution from multiple sports arenas across China to transport sports content to China Unicom`s central hub in Beijing, offering flexible access for true multiservice media transport. Some of the units will be mobile and deployed for other live events when not used for sports games.
The Nimbra MSR solution combines native video/audio service transport with carrier-class Metro Ethernet switching to provide a high quality solution for demanding applications in the media and broadcast industry. Thanks to the efficient bandwidth utilization, China Unicom will be able to carry both video and data over its existing infrastructure, using dual uplinks for high availability. The solution also offers hitless 1+1 protection switching and video multicasting capabilities.
"China Unicom is our first major telco in the country and this is another important step forward for Net Insight, reinforcing the trust we have built in the region and the strength of our brand in the market in China," says Fredrik Tumegård, CEO of Net Insight.
The order for the Nimbra solution was won through Net Insight`s master distributor in China,
NI Systems Limited, in the fourth quarter of 2014 and was delivered in the first quarter of 2015.
