French Tennis Federation (FFT) jointly announced on June 4 with Tencent Sports at Roland-Garros that they had signed a 5-year (2017-2021) partnership deal. This is the French Open’s first time reaching an exclusive partnership with Chinese digital sports media.
The agreement has been signed on a highly symbolic date: six years ago to this day in 2011, Li Na won Roland-Garros, becoming the first female Chinese player to capture a Grand Slam singles title which has become a milestone in Chinese tennis history.
This partnership will see Tencent Sports create a comprehensive French Open content platform delivering programmes and exclusive data to their users in China featuring live streaming, on-demand services, video highlights, sidelights and interactive contents. A Chinese language version of the French Open website will also go live to provide Chinese fans with the latest news and services of Roland-Garros.
Moreover, FFT and Tencent Sports will jointly promote the French Open Junior Wild Card Competitions in China allowing Tencent Sports to leverage its status in growing Roland-Garros's influence and brand value in China.
