As reported by NetEase Sports on Dec 29, the badminton website Badzine has announced the list of prize winners for 2016, with 2 Chinese players ranked in the top 10.
Tai Tzu Ying, the World No.1 from Taipei, has won US$271,025 from all tournaments in 2016, more than any other badminton player. After winning the Women’s Singles championship at the BWF Hong Kong Open, she has replaced Marin (the Olympic champion from Spain) as World No.1.
Chen Qingchen, a women’s doubles player, ranks 2nd with earnings of US$245,000, while the other women’s doubles player Zheng Siwei has won US$151,000, ranking the 5th.
Li Zong Wei from Malaysia was top of the list in 2011 and 2013 with US$267,000 and US$292,540 respectively, but this year is in 3rd place with winnings of US$171,000.
Lin Dan ranks 34th with US$76,975 as he has attended fewer tournaments this year. The new Olympic champion Chen Long ranks 40th with US$69,325. Li Xuerui ranks 50th with US$58,500, while Wang Yihan ranks 33rd with US$77,135. New stars Sun Yu and Tian Houwei rank 11th and 19th with US$126,000 and US$96,000 respectively.
