SPORTACCORD 2024 INSIGHTS: Sport’s Perfect Storm
23 May 2024 14:34
Last afternoon(Dec 25th), the head coach of National Badminton Team, Li yongbo expressed his idea on the the contract between Lin dan and Yonex for the very first time. Lin is allowed to use Yonex racket and sneakers without exposing the trademark. Li admitted that Lin is special man with special contribution to China badminton, others in the team could not duplicate.
From the World Championship 2014, Lin was wearing the Yonex shirt for the first time out of the court, while Lining is the exclusive supplier of National Badminton Team, which definitely included Lin.
During the China Open in November, Lin had claimed a press conference on December 15th. But on Dec 14th , the conference was cancelled, according to Lin the contract term is over 10 years would expire after 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Sign a commercial contract with a supplier without dealing with the National Team, Lin is the very first athlete to fulfill that. Lin is like Li Na in badminton who can control their own business. “Thanks to Lining, who also was an outstanding athlete before, is able to understand Lin.”
But although Lin now have the right to select supplier by himself, he is not allowed to wear others shirt during training and competing for National Team, only sneaker and racket could make exception.
However, Lin does not consider that he is not in the team anymore. I possibly could have won 2 or 3 titles if I am in Malaysia and Indonesia. The team helps me a lot, I would not get rid of the team, despite I have my own supplier.
