Suning Group-backed PPTV has announced that it has has entered into an exclusive multi-year content distribution agreement with World Wrestling Entertainment ( WWE).
As of June 28th, PPTV and PPTV sports will provide fans in China with the full three-hour Raw program and two hours of SmackDown on demand. Viewers will also be able to watch the short-form content through the PPTV website and its app on Smart TVs, set-top boxes and mobile devices. The Chinese company is now looking to launch a new WWE website in the country.
WWE is set to hold its first live event in China in three years, with “WWE Live 2016 China” scheduled for Sept. 10 at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai.
At the same time, WWE has signed Wang Bin, the first Chinese wrestler to train in its developmental program. Wang will soon begin training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. This move is thought to be part of WWE’s ambitious plan to expand its global reach.
