Chinese Super League giants Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC will have to invest RMB100million in the project to reconstruct Tianhe Stadium next year. This will be built into their new leasing contract with Guangzhou Sports Bureau, according to Chinese web portal Hoop Sports.
The contract stipulates that Guangzhou Evergrande will be responsible for reconstruction and turning the venue into a professional soccer stadium with a budget of RMB100 million, ahead of 2017.
The new Asian champions will firstly spend around RMB10 million on upgrading the grass and the VIP rooms. In addition, plans for the stadium include an increase in the number of box seats and ordinary seats. The club also intends to upgrade the audio and LED displays around the stadium.
Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC, with the financial backing of Chinese billionaires, Xu Jiangyin and Jack Ma, is one of the leading soccer clubs in China and indeed all of Asia. The club lifted the AFC Champions League trophy in 2013 and 2015.
