Chinese vice Premier Liu Yandong visited Houston on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. She met with representatives from education, sports, medicine, and science. During the stay, she visited Houston Rockets and attended a friendly game held in Toyota Center.

This visit was just before the sixth meeting of the China-US High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange to be held in Washington, which was headed by State Councilor Liu Yandong on the Chinese side.

On June 21, Liu Landong attended a friendly game between Tsinghua High School Basketball Team and Star team of Houston High School, in the training court of Toyota Center. She was accompanied by President of NBA China Shu Dewei, CEO of Houston Rockets Ted Brown, and former NBA star Yao Ming.

Sports have been one of the first areas that witnessed Sino-US cooperation in the China-US High-Level Consultation Mechanisms. The sports that saw cooperation have expanded from table tennis to basketball, volleyball, football, Wushu, Qigong, and other Olympic Game sports and traditional Chinese sports.

Apart from the focuses from China and US government, leagues have also been actively promoting sports collaboration between the two countries. NBA has agreed with Chinese Ministry of Education in October 2014 to help promote basketball in Chinese universities and schools.
