This year's Yao Foundation Charity Game is held in Shanghai between the NBA Elites and the CBA All Stars.
Former NBA star Yao Ming established the Yao Foundation to improve children's education and living conditions in poorer areas across China.
The annual charity game started in 2010. This year's event aims at giving children better access to sports activities.
Yao has had a chance to see what his actions meant to the people in China's rural areas.
"Having been used to life in big cities, we usually overlook so many details. But when you are in a less developed place, in the rural areas, you will slow down to think about such things. I lived for a short while in one of these places to experience the children's lives, and felt basketball is of greater value here than in the cities."
The revenue of the charity game will go to the Yao Foundation to fund the basketball projects at beneficiary schools.
Last season's NBA champion Draymond Green leads the visiting team. The Chinese side includes CBA winner Li Gen.
