On September 25, Chongqing city, a direct-administered municipality in Western China, held a meeting where the “Action Plan for the Development of Football in Chongqing (2019-2022)” was announced.
According to the plan, Chongqing will increase efforts in professional football, youth training, campus football, social football, football pitch facilities, brand events and development support. By creating the action plan, Chongqing expects to see a stronger competition and training system, making the football industry grow even larger, eventually making Chongqing an influential football city in Western China.
To accomplish these goals, Chongqing have many actions in their sights.
● Beginning next year, Chongqing will organize the annual ‘The Mayor Cup’ youth football tournament.
● Chongqing Municipal Sports Bureau, Liangjiang New Area and Lander Sports will work together to construct a “Liangjiang Football Events Center”, which will include a stadium, a youth training base, a football industrial park, and an international football academy.
● Chongqing Football Association and SWM will jointly create the Youth Training Center.
● 8 district-level youth training centers have been finalized.
Chongqing has already been active in the football field. It has organized the Chinese Football Association Super Cup and the Four-Nation Women's Football Tournament China PR. It has a solid performing football club in Dangdai Lifan and a professional women’s football team formed by Chongqing sports authorities and Lander Sports. Chongqing has also received the national level Football Training Center status from the Chinese Football Association. With nearly 800 certified football coaches and 600 football referees, football has become an icon of Chongqing.
