The Chinese Handball Association Super League was launched today (April 3) by the Chinese Handball Association and China National Sports Group in Beijing.
This is the first time that a professional handball league has been created in China and it is a reflection of the professionalization movement of sports in the country.
Four teams will participate in the league, Beijing Guangcai Men's Handball Club, Jiangsu Wuyue Men's Handball Club, Guangdong Luhuan Simiao Men's Handball Club and the Chinese Handball Association National Men's Handball Club. It is an innovative move to have a national team club participating in a professional league.
The three local clubs can each have two international players.
The Chairman of CHA, Wang Tao, says that the new league is an exploration and effort under the Chinese sports reform background. The league is expected to promote the healthy and sustainable development of handball in China and be a key method to revive the sport on the mainland.
The league is scheduled to take place from June 28 to August 18 in Beijing, Jiangmen and Suzhou.
