Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), acquired by WME-IMG for $4bn last year, will launch its first fight night in mainland China in November, officials announced during Saturday‘s UFC214 broadcast.
The UFC Fight Night is scheduled to be held at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai on November 25. As part of the inaugural event, a group of top UFC fighters led by featherweight champion Max Holloway will start their first China Tour between August 3 and 4.
A Foxsports report stated that “the event is expected to see a mixture of international and Chinese national fighters.“
“We are always asked when the UFC will be making its debut in mainland China,” UFC Senior Vice President of International and Content Joe Carr stated.
“We are honored to confirm that Shanghai will be the home of the very first live UFC event in mainland China, and to say that we are excited is an understatement. The entire organization is looking forward to making history this year.”
