The second season of Formula E championship, the world’s first fully electric racing series, is to begin later this month with the first race on the 24th October in Beijing, but Formula E is already collecting hosts for next season.
Hong Kong is scheduled to host a leg of the Formula E championship on October 9 for the 2016-2017 season, Formula E chief Alejandro Agag announced recently.
“As one of the most innovative, cutting-edge and fun-loving cities in the world, Hong Kong and Formula E share many of the same qualities,” Agag said. “We look forward to bringing all the fun and entertainment of Formula E to this amazing city.”
Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet Junior is current world champion after winning Formula E’s first season, which began in Beijing last year and concluded in London in June.
Piquet said:”Hong Kong is a great city: busy, modern, exciting,” he said. “I very much hope I will have the chance to race here next year.”
Apart from Beijing, other cities confirmed on the second season include Paris, Moscow and Buenos Aires, before the championship ends in London in July.
