Chinese B2C e-commerce leaders JD.com announced at their press conference held on June 14 that they had taken the first step in professional eSports by acquiring two professional eSports teams – LPL team QG and LSPL team NON and have now been renamed as JDGaming and JoyDream respectively following their acquisitions.
Additionally, JD.com and their partners jointly announced the set-up of a gaming & entertainment industry alliance while also unveiling their 3-step approach. The first step is to strengthen their partnership with eSports‘ IPs, setting up elite eSports teams and lastly to partner with companies in the entertainment and sports industries.
JD Game+, a branch of JD.com focusing on games and eSports, has been working together with Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, ASUS, Razer, Tsinghua Tongfang, Haier, Colorful Group and Mechrevo since 2015 and are dedicated to creating an entertainment eco-system with a complete structure based on 3 strategies.
The first strategy is to partner with hardware manufacturers and cybercafes in order to provide eSports fans with a communication platform. The second strategy is to cooperate with online multiplayers games such as League of Legends (LOL) and DOTA2, along with organizing eSports tournament and events and developing a youth training system. Finally, the third strategy will be to acquire top eSports teams thereby capturing existing top resources in the eSports industry.
