There is currently strong speculation that English Championship club Reading FC are about to be taken over by a Chinese consortium.
The prospective new owners are tipped to be Dai Yongge and his sister Dai Xiu Li, who are amongst the wealthiest people in China. According to local media, GetReading, “negotiations are underway and are at an advanced stage.” Dai Yongee and Dai Xiu Li already own Beijing Renhe FC in China, but are on the lookout for an English club.
However the situation could be complicated by the presence of another unnamed Chinese group interested in taking over at the Madejski Stadium. There is even talk of an American consortium hovering in the background.
Under Dutchman Japp Stam, the former Manchester United legend, The Berkshire club have been going well this season and as of now sit third on the table. This comes after several years of instability at the club.
Royals fan Charlie Firth summed up the opinions on the ground, “a fair number of clubs have met their doom with the introduction of new owners, whilst others will dream, looking towards clubs that have reached the height of English football (Manchester City, Southampton, Bournemouth) following a takeover.”
