Last week TV and online audiences in China saw a virtual advertisement on screen in a Chinese Super League (CSL) game for the first time. The occasion was the CSL game between SIPG FC and Guoan FC on Friday Sep 9th. Ganten Water, which is reportedly going to be the 2017 and 2018 Official Water Sponsor of the CSL, displayed its branding via a virtual advertisement during that game, so becoming the first sponsor in CSL history to use virtual advertising during a game.
Gantern’s animated branding appeared on the center of the pitch and on an audience stand facing the camera at the beginning and end of each half and after each goal.
The other party that helped introduce virtual advertising into the CSL was Ti’ao Power, the exclusive broadcasting rights holder of the Chinese Super League. Ti’ao Power is reportedly trying to improve the broadcasting of the CSL in new and innovative ways.
