KPMG recently published a report about the commercial performance of some of the world football leagues in 2014/2015 season. The report shows that the Chinese Super League, together with two other new leagues, the MLS and the Indian Super Leauge, did very well in some aspects, even better than some of the traditional top 5 European football leagues.
These three new leagues all use a calendar year as a season. In 2015, the average attendance of them was over 20,000 per matches. This number is very close to that of Spain’s La Liga, Italy’s Serie A and France’s Ligue 1.
Chinese Super League had an average attendance of 21,800 in 2015, which was 16.7% higher than 2014. It was slightly bigger than MLS’s 21,536 and a little lower than the Indian Super League’s 26,376.
The highlight is perhaps the large percentage of growth of the attendance of the Chinese Super League.
In the top 5 European leagues, only France’s Ligue 1 demonstrated big percentage of growth of attendance in the 2014/2015 season. Nevertheless, the Premier League was still the No. 1 in attendance – 36,000 people in average.
