Mission Hills has invested in China’s gold industry, with golf facilities in Haikou and Shenzhen. On November 20, Mission Hills collected six trophies at this year’s Asian Golf Awards in Singapore, including the Asia Pacific Golf Vision Award in recognition of “a golf initiative that is world class in stature”.
In paying tribute to Group Chairman and CEO Dr. Ken Chu and Vice Chairman Tenniel Chu, the awards organisers commented: “Both men are being recognised for their vision to transform Mission Hills into one of the world’s most prominent retail, tourism, golf and entertainment resorts.”
Mission Hills Haikou won both Best Golf Resort and Best Clubhouse, while Mission Hills Shenzhen was announced as having the Best Pro-Shop. The Blackstone Course at Haikou, which hosted last month’s Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am, was named Best Course in China, while Ricky Guo Jinwei from Haikou was named Best Food and Beverage Manager of the Year.
Tenniel Chu outlined the Group’s ‘Golf and More’ family-centred leisure lifestyle as he gave the opening address at the preceding Asia Pacific Golf Summit, which was attended by 217 delegates from 23 countries.
“The future of golf is about risk, trying something new, going for broke,” Chu told the audience. “You know you won’t always win, but you back yourself to succeed more often than you fail. This willingness to take on the risk is – I strongly believe – the key to our future and the legacy we will leave for the generations that follow. We know we should adapt, but are we brave enough to see it through? At Mission Hills, we have accepted the challenge. We are changing golf.”
Earlier this month, Mission Hills’ role in China’s golf development was honoured with a special award at the European Golf Business Conference in Barcelona, Spain. Tenniel Chu received the ‘Dare to Dream’ trophy at The European Golf Course Owners Association’s Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony.
