With the US Masters 2018 beginning on April 5, Chinese golfer Li Haotong will make his debut in the first major golf tournament of the year. On the eve of the tournament, Li Haotong and WeChat jointly announced their new partnership on April 2, making the social media giant Li’s main sponsor.
Under the partnership, WeChat’s logo will feature on Li’s cap during the Masters at Augusta. In the future, the brand will also support Li as he competes in various golf tournaments, including the PGA European Tour.
Having signed this deal, a Wechat representative expressed their expectations for this sponsorship with the promotion of golf in China and the global expansion of Wechat their main priorities. Li also stated that it was an honour for him to partner with WeChat.
Li Haotong, born in 1995, is a Chinese professional golfer who turned professional in 2011 and played his early pro career on the OneAsia Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia. He played in a few European Tour events before capturing his maiden European Tour victory by winning the Volvo China Open on May 1 2016.
In 2017, Li played mainly on the European Tour, but also had some breakthrough results at the US Open, British Open and PGA Championship. In January 2018, Li earned his second victory on the European Tour, at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
