SPORTACCORD 2024 INSIGHTS: Sport’s Perfect Storm
23 May 2024 14:34
Hyundai Motor Company has dropped its 7-year sponsorship of the China Ladies Open (CLO), which leaves the event without a title sponsor for this year’s tournament, according to a Sina report.
Launched in 2006, the golf event announced Hyundai as its title sponsor in 2010 and in the past 7 years, the total amount of prize money has grown from US$250,000 to US$550,000.
As revealed by an official of the China Ladies Professional Golfers Association CLPG Tour, the organizers are looking for a new sponsor for the CLO 2017 which is scheduled to tee off in December.
It is still unknown whether Hyundai’s decision to drop its title sponsorship will cause a schedule change to this year’s tournament, which is planned to take place at the Lion Lake Country Club, Qingyuan, Guangdong Province.
Organized by the Multi-Ball Games Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sports of China, the China Golf Association and the Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province and co-sanctioned by the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association, the 2016 Hyundai China Ladies Open brought together 108 top golfers including those from top golfing nations such as China and South Korea to the competition.
