Shenyang will be the host city for the 2016 Gothia Cup, the largest and most international youth football tournament in the world, after a partnership deal was officially announced at a press conference held in Goteborg, Swenden on September 23.
The agreement was signed by representatives from Shenyang and World Youth Football Union. The organizer of the Gothia Cup officially address to the whole world at the press conference that the 2016 event will come to Shenyang,China.
The 2016 event, which is scheduled to be held in next August, is expected to have more than 800 youth football teams across the world to participate in Shenyang.
Shenyang Organizing Committee for the Gothia Cup was formally set up on September 8 and the construction of 46 new soccer fields in Shenyang is in progress, indicating a full start of the preparatory work for the event.
Gothia Cup
First held in 1975 with 275 participating teams, Gothia Cup has now become the dominant youth football event in Gothenburg, with (as of 2006) 4,320 games played on 91 fields, and 300,000 visitors to the centre on Heden. The event is open for both boys and girls of ages 11 to 19 years.
