Media reported that Bayern will come to China to play three warm-up games this summer. This new was confirmed by Mr Rummenigge, CEO of the club.
According to Heinz Rummenigge, the club will play in three cities, Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. The opponents are not clear yet.
Rummenigge said that the reason that the club will come to China is because of international competition from top clubs in the Premier League, La Liga, and elsewhere.
“We are facing competition at the global level, especially from top clubs like those in the Premier League and La Liga, as well as Paris Saint-Germain. It means that Bayern must internationalize. We must go to distant countries to play every year, so that we could keep promoting the brand.”
Bayern played in America last summer with an all-star team of the MLS. They played in Qatar and Saudi Arabia in this winter break. This summer, they are going to come to China.
He said that a top member of the club is very expecting the trip to China. This member is also the CEO of Volkswagen. He said that he believed that China is becoming a more and more important market in football, and because of the political power, football will continue to grow in China in the next few years, and Bayern hopes to play a role in this process.
Now the club has set up an office in China and the USA, hoping to exploit the market better. The last time they played in China was in the summer of 2012.
