Bundesliga International and PP Sports organized the Bundesliga Legends Tour with 1990 World Cup winner Jürgen Klinsmann’s visit to China from April 11-15. It is the first fan activity to be implemented shortly after the new Bundesliga International China office was opened in March.
The 54-year-old German legend is very popular in China and during a fan meeting in Beijing, the former German FIFA World Cup winner and UEFA Euros champion received a tremendous welcome from the fans.
The week-long visit includes a visit to a youth football competition, a trip to the Great Wall, a fan meeting at the Brotzeit restaurant next to the Bundesliga International China office, a visit to PP Sports office in Beijing, attendance at a CSL match between Beijing Guoan and Henan Jianye and some media interviews.
The tour to China is reported on many media in China, including national TV networks news outlet, such as CCTV Sports, CGTN and Xinhua News. Chinese legends Shao Jiayi and Yang Chen also attended the fan meeting in Brotzeit.
Because the head coach of the current Chinese men’s national team has not been appointed yet, the visit of Klinsmann did trigger some interest among Chinese fans and media as to whether he would take the position.
It is the first campaign the Bundesliga and PP Sports have jointly launched since they agreed in Nanjing at the beginning of April to further deepen collaboration between the two sides to release more value of the Bundesliga in China and to work together in more fields such as sports retail and sports marketing.
