The evening newspaper Fazhi Wanbao has reported that from the 2020 Chinese Super League season, Nike is going to provide a customized jersey design for Beijing Sinobo Guoan FC and at the same time, the Chinese Football Association Super League Co., Ltd. will change the distribution model of kit sponsorship fees among the 16 CSL clubs.
Nike and the Chinese Football Association Super League Co., Ltd. extended their partnership for another 10 years in May 2018, with the fees speculated to be CNY100m.
However, it was reported that Beijing Sinobo Guoan voted against the extension because they thought the sponsorship fee they would receive from the total deal was smaller than the club’s actual value. They believed they would get a higher kit sponsorship deal by themselves.
As a result, the Chinese Super League Co., Ltd., Nike and Beijing Sinobo Guoan FC started discussions on the issue.
According to the latest report by Fazhi Wanbao reporter Wang Fan, Nike is going to provide a globally exclusive jersey design for Beijing Sinobo Guoan from the 2020 CSL season. In the mean time, the Chinese Super League Co., Ltd. is going to stop distributing kit sponsorship fees averagely to each of the 16 clubs and instead will adjust the fees each club can get according to the clubs’ influence and sales of jerseys.
Nike is also said to be going to set up a particular business unit to provide services for each of the CSL clubs.
