AirAsia has become the title sponsor of the World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) Southeast Asia, as Alisports officially opened the 2018-2019 season of WESG in Kuala Lumpur on Monday July 2.
The new title sponsor, AirAsia, will get brand visibility online and offline and will provide resources for the event in return, such as providing convenience in buying flight tickets for the players and opening online stores.
This is the third edition of WESG. The previous two editions have been largely organized on the Chinese mainland, but have attracted players from around the world. According to Alisports, the second edition had 68,000 players from 126 countries taking part. Therefore, in the new season, Alisports has expanded their overseas presence and is expected to organize up to 25 stops overseas covering 206 countries.
AirAsia clearly values the influence and benefits of partnering with eSports events in the Southeast Asia area, with the Executive Chairman of AirAsia Group commenting that Southeast Asia is one of the areas in the world that eSports has grown the fastest, attracting 9.3m eSports fans and still growing annually. To become a partner of WESG Southeast Asia, AirAsia has made advances in the market.
Agri Mind, a global strategic partner of WESG, is the party that helped bring the third WESG to Southeast Asia. The Chairman of Agri Mind, Calvin Lau, says that they look forward to developing high performance eSports players in the region, bringing them to play on the WESG stage, and ultimately driving eSports development in the region.
The registration process for Southeast Asia opens on July 2. Players can register for free and the total prize money pool is USD5.5m. Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brunei, Laos and Burma will all host events and qualifiers to be staged in August and September.
