The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Organizing Committee officially announced Shougang Group as an Official Partner. The signing ceremony took place yesterday (June 5) at the offices of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games, located in the New Shougang High-End Industry Comprehensive Service Park (Shougang Park).

This is the sixth official partner the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee has signed. The partnership strengthens the collaboration between Shougang Group and Beijing 2022 and can be seen as an acknowledgement of Shougang’s existing contribution to hosting the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Shougang Group is a well-known state-owned large conglomerate in China. Established in 1919 as a steel manufacturer, Shougang has transformed into a comprehensive group covering wide-spread areas of business sectors, such as mining, environment, real estate, urban services and financial services. It  has been ranked since 2010 as one of the top global 500 companies.

Since 2005, Shougang Group has worked with partners to transform its old steel-producing industrial park into a modern industry service park. Located in the westernmost part of Chang’an Avenue, Shougang Park has provided a home to the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. They have transformed a clean coal workshop into  the national team's winter training center and built a ski jump as a competition facility for Beijing 2022.

According to its official plans and goals, the Shougang Group has since 2014 aimed to develop its steel sector and urban services with the same amount of effort and treat them as two focuses in the development of the group. This is partly reflected in the Chinese version of Shougang Group’s new official partner status: Official Urban Regeneration Services Partner (官方城市更新服务合作伙伴).

The signing ceremony was attended by IOC and IPC leaders who were in Beijing attending the PyeongChang 2018 Debrief. The IOC President Thomas Bach, IPC President Andrew Parsons, IOC Vice President Yu Zaiqing, Executive President Guo Zhongwen, Organising Committee for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, Hebei Deputy Governor Xu Jianpei, the Beijing Municipal Government Secretary General Ji Wei, Shougang Group Board Director and General Manager Zhang Gongyan and many other leaders were in attendance.
