Li-Ning is expected to replace the Mexican brand Charly Futbol Mexican to become the new sponsor of Club Puebla, a professional football club competing in the Liga MX, according to a report by César Aguilar of diariocambio.com.mx.
Li-Ning will provide the Mexican club with on-the-pitch and training outfit from next season if the two sides could finalize the deal. Neither the club nor the brand has made any comment on this as of now.
Li-Ning, founded in 1989, is one of the leading sportswear brands in China that makes sports clothing, shoes, accessories and equipment for both professional and recreational use. The brand once sponsored Spanish clubs like Sevilla, Espanyol, Celta de Vigo, Real Zaragoza, Recreativo de Huelva and Union Las Palmas.
The Chinese brand has continued its climb overseas, reporting an 11% revenue gain in 2017. Its financial report is highlighted by the brand’s massive revenue increase to CNY8.87 bn (USD1.41 bn).
Charly Futbol became the sponsor of the Club Puebla since the Clausura 2015 when it replaced Kappa. The Mexican brand has gained ground in the Liga MX, currently sponsoring Xolos, Necaxa, Veracruz, Puebla, Tampico, Leones Negros and Dorados.
