Tencent has signed a three-year strategic partnership deal with Major League Baseball (MLB), which will enable the Chinese media company to live stream MLB games and MLB highlight programs in China.
Under this deal, Tencent will become the Official Digital Broadcasting Partner of MLB in China. According to reports, Tencent will be given the exclusive rights to live stream 125 games including MLB Jewel Events in China on Tencent PC, Mobile and OTT platforms.
Tencent will launch its schedule with Super Baseball Week. According to an MLB official statement, “After the first week, Tencent will live stream regular season games on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as the All-Star Game presented by Mastercard, T-Mobile Home Run Derby, and every game of the Postseason and World Series, presented by YouTube TV.”
At the same time, Tencent will show a series of MLB highlight programs including MLB Best, MLB Video Clips and a Chinese version of This Week in Baseball.
The two sides are also looking to grow youth baseball and development events in China. In this regard, Tencent will become the Official Partner of MLB Baseball Park, as well as present the MLB reality show Perfect Pitch, College League games, the MLB Play Ball! Diamond Cup and other MLB Play Ball! youth events. Additionally, Tencent will also launch an online MLB Fan Club where Chinese fans can exchange ideas about baseball.
