As the Chinese news website Jiemian.com exclusively reported, the 2018 Formula One Championships (F1) will be jointly broadcasted by China Central Television (CCTV), Shanghai-based satellite TV Great Sports and the Internet-based sports media giant, Tencent Sports.
According to Jiemian.com, F1 broadcasts of a whole season have been disappearing from CCTV channels over the past 5 years. The website has also disclosed that CCTV5 will stream the Chinese Grand Prix, while some other races will be broadcast on CCTV5+, a sports event broadcasting channel.
Great Sports have been an F1 broadcaster since 2002 with journalists from Jiemian.com informing us that the channel will stream 21 F1 races in 2018.
The website also revealed that Tencent Sports has announced their broadcasting plan for the 2018 F1, with the current broadcasting team for Tencent Sports NBA and other sports events programs taking charge of the upcoming F1 broadcasts.
Having ended their partnership with the CCTV in 2013, F1 endorsed the exclusive broadcasting rights for the China mainland to the Chinese sports media company LeSports for 3 years. However, LeSports failed to pay the remaining fees for the rights in 2017, so losing the rights to broadcast F1 in May 2017.
