On February 5th, the Center for Reform and Development of Cities and Small Towns, under the arm of the National Development and Reform Commission, announced the establishment of the Smart City National Fitness Development Alliance.
Initiated by the Center and Wisdom Sports Group, the Alliance consists of smart Chinese cities, enterprises and public institutions, science research institutes and industry experts.
According to an official news release, the Alliance aims to help carry out the national fitness overall plan, set up standards of the national fitness model in smart cities, evaluate the achievements of fitness business in smart cities, alongside promoting the application of a well-established national fitness model.
Specifically, the Alliance will start from “Smart Fitness-Health China—Smart City National Fitness Project”, with the goal of setting up standards for national fitness in smart cities, launching smart events and smart venues as well as making it clear about the smart sports services available.
At the same time, the Project is expected to include a smart city national fitness online service platform, which will provide daily health and fitness services to more than 200 million Chinese people by the year 2020.
In 2018, the Alliance hopes that they can complete the construction of the service platform and hold 30 “smart marathons”.
This move is an active response to the 2016-2020 National Fitness Plan, which was issued on June 23, 2016. According to the overall plan, by 2020, a significant increase is expected in the number of people participating in physical activities, and hence a steady improvement in their physical and mental wellbeing.
China is also encouraging that the educational, economic and social functions of the national fitness plan will be brought into play to promote the development of various social undertakings.
In addition to this, the total scale of sports consumption is expected to reach RMB1.5 trillion. In other words, the national fitness plan will become a driver in the promotion of the development of the sports industry, increasing domestic demands and boosting new economic growth.
