Hong Kong commercial broadcaster, Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) has signed a deal with the International Olympic Committee, acquiring the media rights to broadcast the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Hong Kong, just ahead of the start of the Games on February 9.
As the official broadcaster of PyeongChang 2018 in Hong Kong, TVB’s coverage plan will include more than 1,000 hours of action from the Games, according to the South China Morning Post.
The deal also includes Hong Kong’s Arabella Ng’s participation in the giant slalom and slalom competitions.
During this year’s Games, taking place between the 9th and 25th February, users will be able to watch live coverage via TVB’s over-the-top (OTT) service, myTV Super, which will be available to subscribers on mobile devices and online.
As Tony Yue Kwok-leung,head of the Hong Kong delegation to Pyeongchang, told South China Morning Post, “Winter sports are very exciting and have many followers in Hong Kong. It will be a good opportunity for them to watch these exciting performances through the Pyeongchang Games.”
In mainland China, state broadcaster CCTV holds the media rights to broadcast the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games.
