As of December 19, 2017, 27 sports associations in Beijing had split from the administrative system and transformed into independent entities.
As one of the 27 sports associations, the Beijing Football Association completed its separation from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports last month. The 27 associations also include the Beijing Kite Association, the Beijing Association for Traditional Sports of Nationalities and the Beijing Bowling Association.
With winter sports gaining more popularity in Beijing, more winter sports associations have emerged. This year, the Beijing Ski Association and the Beijing Curling Association have been set up and the establishment of the Beijing Skating Association is under way.
As a important measure of sports reform in China, sports associations are being encouraged to become independent entities, rather than affiliated to the administrative system. Reportedly, this measure will enable sports associations to have a better connection with the sports market and consumers, which will benefit the sports industry in Beijing.
