Jingmei Group to turn its coal mine into skiing industrial base

By Nong Ruowen Friday, 15 Dec 2017 16:44

In accordance with the transformation of Beijing and the upcoming 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Jingmei Group is going to make a big difference to its business. This Beijing-based state-owned company in the coal industry will turn its Muchengjian Coal Mine into a national skiing industrial base.

Having been in operation for 65 years, Muchengjian Coal Mine was the biggest coal mine in western Beijing. However, as the overcapacity in Beijing’s coal industry emerged, Jingmei Group has gradually closed its Muchengjian Coal Mine and has made plans to transform it.

According to the Jingmei Group’s plan, Muchengjian Coal Mine will serve as a national skiing industrial base combining skiing equipment research and development, ski coaching and tourism industries.

Additionally, Jingmei Group will construct a world-class ski tunnel within the new skiing industrial base, which will act as the training camp for China’s national ski team to prepare for Beijing 2022. Currently, the ski tunnel project design is under development by Jingmei Group and some other sports companies.

After Beijing 2022, Jingmei Group plans to turn the skiing industrial base into a ski resort for the public and leverage it to boost the tourism industry.
