Huawei Technologies Norway has announced a sponsorship deal with the Norwegian Ski Federation - Cross Country with the aim of promoting its products to a wider audience in the country.
As part of the deal, two of the world's top cross country skiers, Therese Johaug and Heidi Weng, will serve as Huawei's brand ambassadors.
Eric Zhang, CEO of Huawei Norway, said, “We have very high ambitions in the Norwegian market and are proud to sponsor the Norwegian Ski Federation with their world class athletes. It takes exceptionally hard work to become number one in cross country skiing. This matches well with our company’s core values of working hard and dreaming big to ‘Make it Possible’.”
“We are very pleased that an international brand like Huawei wants to use Norwegian cross country skiing to reach a larger market. This is a confirmation that our sport and our profiles make a difference for a commercial actor, and it inspires us to keep managing our sport in a long-term and professional manner,” Bernt Halvard Olderskog, commercial manager for cross country in the Norwegian Ski Federation, said.
Huawei’s consumer brand is relatively young in the Norwegian market while cross country skiing is one of the strongest culture bearers in Norway. Thus with this partnership Huawei clearly shows its commitment to create a broader awareness of its brand.
Earlier this year, Huawei established a successful partnership with Norwegian elite soccer club Vålerenga. In addition, Huawei has co-operations with leading international clubs such as AC Milan, Ajax, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Paris-Saint Germain (PSG). As for winter sports, Huawei is already sponsoring the Czech national ice hockey team and the prominent Finnish ice hockey team, Jokerit.
