China League One club, Meizhou Hakka, is set to invest 200 million euros in its soccer academy project in Wuhua County of Guangdong Province, according to a news report by the German newspaper Bild.
As we reported in September, Meizhou Hakka has signed a partnership agreement with German Bundesliga side TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for this project. The academy is expected to recruit 300 students aged 8 to 18 each year once it comes into service.
Bild also said, under the 5-to-10-year partnership, Hoffenheim will send 14 coaches to work on the proposed project, who will be awarded about 5 million euros each year. This means that Meizhou would have to spend more than 50 million euros in hiring German coaches.
“It’s right. We are in an interesting project. Most importantly, when we exchanged ideas with Guangdong earlier, they have recognized our strength in soccer academy.” As TSG managing director Dr. Peter Görlich said in an interview.
