November 13: Sina Sports has signed a strategic partnership deal with Great Sports, a subsidiary of Shanghai Media Group (SMG), which will see the two sides seek opportunities to cooperate in various sports platforms, event establishment and capital partnerships.
The signing ceremony was attended by sports celebrities from sports media companies and representatives from the CBA, Tencent Sports, Super Sports and Yutang Sports.
Sina Sports is the sports division of the Chinese news outlet Sina, while its partner Great Sports is a Shanghai-based media channel specializing in delivering sports content, event productions and promotions.
“Shanghai, where Great Sports has made a huge presence, is a very important market for the Chinese sports industry.” Sina Sports General Manager Arthur Wei said, “the 19-year-old Sina Sports wants to create a partnership model for traditional TV broadcasters and new media platforms.”
Great Sports General Manager Weng Weimin also remarked, “Both of us are outstanding media platforms who have great histories and experiences. Facing the changes in the sports landscape, we need to become good ‘product managers’, keeping pace with the demands of the public.”
