November 4: Shanghai has released a sports industry cluster plan (2017-2020) to promote the development of the local sports industry in the city, turning it into a world-leading sports city.
According to the plan, Shanghai is set to build a sports industry model featuring “a center, two belts and multiple points”.
Specifically, the city is expected to set up 22 municipal sports industry clusters, more than 40 district sports industry clusters and 4 national sports industry pilot bases by the year 2020. Meanwhile, Shanghai also encourages that nearly half of its population should engage in regular exercise during the period.
To turn itself into a world-leading sports city by 2025, Shanghai is looking to make full use of its natural resources, major sports facilities, sporting events, key industry zones and traffic planning, which is expected to accelerate its businesses including sports services, sports technologies and mass participation events.
