The NBA Hall of Fame member Yao Ming and his wife Ye Li attended the christening ceremony of the new Majestic Princess cruise ship on July 9 in Shanghai.
As the ship's official Inaugural Cruise Ambassadors, the couple gave their blessings at the beginning of the vessel’s Asian-market service.
“We are really honored to become the first Chinese couple to inaugurate a Princess Cruises ship,” Yao said.
“I’m very impressed by Princess Cruises’ deep empathy for Chinese youngsters, and feel grateful for the line’s great support for the Yao Foundation. I am looking forward to a perfect holiday on Majestic Princess in the near future. ”
The 143,000-ton ship was handed over to the line earlier this year and began service on a Silk Road Sea Route from Rome that visited 22 ports including Athens, Dubai, Cochin, Singapore, Port Klang, Xiamen and Hong Kong. The ship will now sail out of Shanghai with voyages beginning July 11 targeting the growing Chinese market.
