As reported by Tencent Sports, on July 1, HC Heilongjiang Kunlun Red Star hosted a departure ceremony in Harbin. After passing the physical exam in Moscow (Russia), they will go to Czech Republic in order to take part in intensive training sessions. When they come back in September, they will participate in their first home match in Harbin after the club joins the VHL (Supreme Hockey League). It will also be the first China match of VHL.
HC Heilongjiang Kunlun Red Star was co-founded on May 27 by the Chinese Ice Hockey Association, the Administration of Sports of Heilongjiang Province and the HC Kunlun Red Star.
VHL is the second highest level of Russian hockey league just after KHL. Currently, there are 28 participating teams from China, Russia and Kazakhstan.
According to Alex, the Russian coach of the club, although the team is new to VHL, their goal this year is to secure their place in the playoffs, and aim for the second round.
