The Wanda Group announced a strategic partnership with Abbott World Marathon Majors(WMM) in Beijing yesterday and will bring in three major marathon events in the Asia-Pacific region in the next 10 years, with one in China within 2 to 3 years.
WMM was established in 2006 and owns the 6 top-class marathon events which are regarded as the Grand Slam events in marathons. These are the Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon, London Marathon, Berlin Marathon, Chicago Marathon and New York City Marathon.
Tim Hadzima, President of WMM said that WMM has always been committed to the global promotion of marathons; now, through their partnership with the Wanda Group they hope to contribute to marathon development in Asia.
This is another major partnership for events organization signed by the Wanda Group. Up to now, Wanda Sports has landed three sports events in China: the Ironman events, China Cup International Football Championship and Tour of Guangxi (UCI World Tour stop). Through their partnership with the FIBA, they are also authorized to organize two new events including the FIBA 3x3 professional basketball league.
In over 20 countries around the world, Wanda Sports organize events in more than 20 sports. The publicly stated strategy for China is to continue to create world-class and unique sports events. By 2020, the intention is to have at least 10 such events in China.
In 2017 the goal of Wanda Sports is to create 2 to 3 top quality world-class events.
