After the 2016 Super League season ended, the China Football Association Super League Co. LTD (CSL) received a second check for a very large amount: 600 million yuan. As of now, the sponsor, Ti’ao Dongli, has paid CSL royalties totalling 10 billion. The annual income of the CSL reached 15 billion yuan, setting a new record.
In 2015, Ti’ao Dongli were awarded the rights to the Super League for the following five years. According to the contract, from the 2016 season to the 2020 season, over these five years, Ti'ao Dongli will pay 10 billion, 1 billion, 1.5 billion, 2 billion, and 2.5 billion Yuan respectively.
In the contract between CSL and Ti’ao Dongli, it stipulates that the royalties should be paid off in two instalments per season. The first is before the league commences, while the second is near the end of the league. Before the 2016 season, Ti’ao Dongli paid 400 million yuan to the CSL.
In addition to the 10 billion paid by Ti’ao Dongli, the sponsorship revenue received by the CSL also reached a new high. For the 2016 season, it could reach 500 million yuan, while the annual revenue could reach 1.5 billion. The Chinese Football Association will take 10% of the revenue. After the relevant costs and taxes are deducted, the 16 CSL clubs will each receive 60 million or so.
