Tianjin Yugenwei Youth Football Club, founded by former Chinese soccer star Yu Genwei, has recently agreed a partnership with Tianjin Education Bureau on a campus soccer programme, for both high schools and primary schools.
Under the agreement, the sides will work together to develop campus soccer in the East China city. The co-operation will consist of professional tutoring, the promotion of soccer culture, the education of soccer trainers and the establishment of soccer teams.
The partnership marks the first ever joint effort between a provincial sports association and a soccer-related company.
Ge Jinting, an officer of Tianjin’s Education Department, commented that “Tianjin Education Bureau’s official signing with Yugenwei (Youth) FC and the strategic partnership mark a new attempt by the government to use its power and influence to boost campus soccer.”
Speaking about the alliance, Yu Genwei said “We hope to foster versatile soccer talents on campuses and improve students’ interest in and awareness of the sport, rather than having professional soccer as the only choice for those who are new to the sport.”
