According to the Xinhua News Agency, on 31st August, the Chinese delegation for the Paralympic Games arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The delegation includes 499 people, with 308 sports players. This is the largest delegation from China to go abroad to attend the Paralympic Games. The number of players and the number of participating competitions are also the most for China in its history.
It is reported that the Chinese delegation went to Rio in three groups. Those that arrived in Brazil on 31st were the last batch and included 360 players and officials. One third of the competitors in the last group use wheelchairs.
As the Rio Olympic Games came to a close on 21st, the Brazilian government were already been preparing for the Paralympic Games. Chinese Officials from the Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, staff working in Rio and overseas Chinese came to the airport to welcome the delegation.
