PPTV to resell La Liga media rights?

As the 2016/17 season of La Liga prepares to kick off this month, China’s PPTV, current exclusive all media rights holder of the Spanish league within China, is reportedly planning to sign distribution deals with more broadcasters.

As stated in a recent report, a news conference will be held to announce LeSports’ acquisition of a broadcasting package, which is believed to be worth as much as US$20m. Another internet giant Tencent Sports has also shown their interest.

In terms of TV channels, it is reported that GDTV, CQTV and QHTV will become national broadcasters to telecast the Spanish top-tier soccer league. PPTV is also in negotiations with more TV broadcasters. All the above reports have yet to be officially confirmed.

According to a Xinhua report, Xiaomi, a Chinese smartphone brand, has partnered with PPTV to show the upcoming La Liga. Chinese fans will be able to watch all league matches via Xiaomi-owned brands Mi TV and Mi Box.
