By Pu Yang Thursday, 30 Jun 2016 12:00

The General Administration of Sport of China has agreed a partnership with France’s City, Youth and Sport Department on Winter Olympic Games. The announcement came yesterday during Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong’s official visit to France.

As part of the third meeting of the China-France High-level Mechanism for Dialogue on People-to-People Exchanges, Liu Yandong first visited France’s Chamonix, the hosting city of the first Winter Olympic Games in 1924.

Liu Yandong said, “Chamonix has fully integrated the legacy of the Winter Olympics Games with its city development plan, driving the sports and tourism industry with the advantages brought by winter sports. It has developed a new economic growth point and has increased the awareness and influence of the city. China has been an active participant and promoter of the Olympic Games. Beijing and Zhangjiakou successfully won the bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Game. We hope to develop winter sports among the general public and enable more people to enjoy fitness with the opportunity of hosting a Winter Olympic Games. ”

“Sports exchange is a major ‘seed programme’ of China-France people-to-people exchanges,” Liu went to say, “(we) hope that France would actively be involved in the preparatory work for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and support Beijing in organising an entertaining and remarkable Winter Olympic Games.”
