China Central Television's all-sports channel, known as CCTV 5, has signed a strategic partnership deal with Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.
Sina Weibo has been announced as the premier social media partner of the TV station, to support CCTV 5’s media strategy for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
As stated in the report, Olympic programmes will be available all day for Chinese viewers on Sina Weibo, CCTV 5 and CCTV 5 App. Users will also be able to share their favorite programmes from the App to Sina Weibo. In the near future, their partnership will also involve production, content, big data and news reports.
Years of intensive reporting has made CCTV 5 the most popular platform for sports fans in the country. As Jiang Heping, Executive Director of CCTV 5, said, the partnership perfectly integrates Sina Weibo’s strong fan base and CCTV 5’s devoted viewers. This will increase the popularity of the upcoming Olympics as well as promote the sports industry in China.
Sina Weibo Wang Gaofei states that at present, social media features graphics, text messages and videos. He predicts that the upcoming Rio Olympics will provide a great chance for the explosion of short videos. As a long-term partner of CCTV 5, Sina Weibo will take this opportunity to share more exciting sports content with users.
