China Mobile subsidiary MIGU obtain digital live streaming rights to 2018 FIFA World Cup

JD.com, one of the leading e-commerce platforms in China, has officially unveiled a new sports sector to tap into mass sports consumption.
As part of the company’s sports strategy, the sports channel will provide consumers with sports apparel and equipment, covering around 30 different sports including running, ball games, equestrianism, cycling and skiing. JD.com will try to engage consumers with the help of a group of fitness trainers and experts. In addition to sports goods, JD.com will also work together with Le Sports to display videos of sports events in order to market relevant merchandise.
More importantly, the company is also planning to expand investment in sports events through event organizing and sponsorship. And JD.com will also support education programmes for young participants in sports as well as retired athletes.
Chinese leading sportswear manufacturer Li-Ning has already showed interest in a partnership with JD.com. The brand’s President and former Olympic Champion Li Ning said, “the public now have a greater awareness of fitness and sports consumption, (so) Li-Ning will increase co-operation with JD.com’s sports channel.
