Chinese telecom giants Huawei have officially announced,at a press conference held in Barcelona, that four-time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi will be its new global ambassador.
The deal will see the 28-years old become thenewest face of Huawei across the globe following Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez. Despite the terns of the deal not being announced, various media reports said Huawei will pay the Argentine US$6.7 million annually for 2-3 years.
Messi said he shares the same goals and dreams as Huawei.
“The work I did with them [Samsung] was good and I really enjoyed it. What I’m doing with Huawei is even better because we share a lot of the same perspectives regarding goals and dreams, and how to achieve them. I think we’re a really good fit.”
“Messi and Huawei will work together to encourage people to focus, persist, breakthrough and achieve especially in Europe, Asia and Latin America where Huawei has invested heavily,” said a director of Huawei’s mobile phone department.
Huawei is the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer and the company is now very active in sports marketing.
